Let's Get Counted

Census 2020

Let’s get counted because Everyone Counts!

The  US 2020 Census will count the population in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. Beginning in March 2020, each home will receive an invitation to respond to a short questionnaire—online, by phone, or by mail.  The census count is mandated by the US Constitution, and is conducted every ten years by the U.S. Census Bureau, a nonpartisan government agency.

It is important to all Mebane, Alamance County and Orange County residents because this census count affects how much federal funding our city and counties get for various programs for the next 10 years.  The results will show where communities need new schools, new clinics, new roads, and more services for families, older adults, and children. Over the next decade, lawmakers, business owners, and many others will use 2020 Census data to make critical decisions.

The results will also impact how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding are allocated to more than 100 programs, including Medicaid, Head Start, block grants for community mental health services, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP.

Your information is kept strictly confidential and cannot be shared with other government agencies or used against you in any way.  In fact, census takers must agree to keep your information confidential for life.  So stand up and be counted in 2020!
