City of Mebane- COVID-19 Statement

City of Mebane- COVID-19 Statement

Like all organizations, the City of Mebane is tracking COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and how it will impact our community. We are paying close attention to the issue. We will be compiling and sharing information with you as the local situation changes. With 15 cases now in NC, it is time to begin (or increase) your planning – not just for potential illnesses, but for the impact that illness and fear of illness will create on you, your friends and neighbors or your business.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is the best information we have seen for preparation and response. Read it. Forward it to friends, colleagues and business associates. If you are a business, schedule a meeting with your staff to discuss it. Begin making a plan. Governor Roy Cooper hosted a conference call at 5pm on Thursday, March 12, 2020 with City and County officials regarding the state’s response.  With this guidance and very careful consideration, the City has decided to suspend all non-essential city-hosted events, programs, and activities beginning Friday, March 13 through Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

While continuing to serve the public, we will increase safety precautions by increasing procedures for cleaning and sanitizing City facilities. At this time, city facilities will remain open. City leadership will continue to evaluate the City’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic as the situation evolves. The City has convened an internal COVID-19 Task Force that will meet as often as necessary to react to new information and make recommendations.

Governor Cooper reminded us yesterday that there will be difficulties, inconvenience, and disappointment with some of the things facing us in the coming weeks and months.  Hopefully, our good decisions and efforts will help reduce sickness and have life-saving results.

Finally, we are looking for two-way communication on this issue and want to hear from you about what information and resources you need to help prepare. We are also looking for information on how this is impacting you or your business. Please share what you know. Please share what you need.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation as the City determines how to best move forward in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. This is unprecedented in our lifetimes and creates angst, worry, and uncertainty for all of us.
