The Mebane Fire Department operates out of two stations, one on the north side of the railroad tracks and one on the south side of the railroad tracks. Both stations are equipped with fire apparatus and equipment and respond to all emergency calls. The paid personnel operate out of the north side station, which is staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week with 4 paid personnel per shift. The North side station also houses a paramedic employed with Alamance County EMS.

The Mebane Fire Department consists of 36 members, these include 25 volunteers, one paid Chief, 1 Captain in the Fire Prevention Bureau, 3 Lieutenants, 9 firefighters and a full time secretary. The City has a total of 11 apparatus, which include 3 pumpers, 2 tankers, 1 brush truck, 1 utility rescue truck, one 100 foot platform aerial apparatus, 1 support vehicle and 1 Chief's vehicle.

The Department serves both a city and rural fire district. As of September 1, 2004, the Fire Suppression rating schedule formally known as ISO increased from a 4 mile district to a 5 mile district with a new ISO rating of 3 inside the city and a 5 for the remaining district. The City also has an automatic mutual aid agreement with both Alamance and Orange Counties.

The Mebane Fire Department has recently established a Fire Prevention Bureau for the Division of Codes and Standards. Gene Wellons has been promoted to Fire Prevention Captain in the Fire Prevention Bureau. His responsibilities include: fire inspection, fire prevention classes, fire investigations, plan review and issuance of permits. The Mebane Fire Department is a registered Permanent Checking Station and a member of Alamance County Safe Kids and Buckle Up North Carolina. There are 5 trained technicians and 2 Awareness Level Trained employees.
