The new Community Park concept was approved by City Council at their July 11, 2016 meeting. This park incorporates direction from the Recreation Master Plan, the recommendations of a citizen advisory committee after a number of public meetings, input from citizens and input from City staff.
The 32-acre plan includes soccer fields with artificial turf, wooden concession building and other structures, a splash park and dog park, along with parking areas, walking trails and open play space. Construction is expected to take place during the rest of the year, with the new park expected to open in early 2018.
The detailed design was prepared by the design team of Alley Williams Carmen & King and Surface 678. The City received bids on January 31, 2017 for construction of the park and a tentative award was made to Fred Smith Company on February 6, 2017. Staff presented a project update
at the February 6, 2017 Council meeting.
A Public Informational Meeting was held on Thursday, February 23rd, 2017 starting at 6:30 P.M. in the Civic Room at the Mebane Arts & Community Center located at 622 Corregidor Street Mebane, NC 27302.
