Mebane has a City Council and City Manager form of government. Similarly, both Alamance and Orange Counties have a Board of Commissioners with a County Manager.

The Mebane City Council meets the first Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building at 106 East Washington Street. In the event that the regularly scheduled meeting falls on a City observed holiday, the meeting will be rescheduled for the second Monday of the month.

Minutes of previous meetings, as well as an agenda for the upcoming meeting are available both in the office of the City Clerk between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday - Friday, and at the public library. Both a hard copy of the minutes as well as an audio version of the current three months are available. Please note that minutes are not available until approved at the following months meeting, and the agenda for the upcoming meeting is set approximately one week prior to the meeting date.
